What is MyQ® Technology? (Your Garage on Your Phone)

MyQ® is the industry-leading smart home platform developed by Chamberlain and LiftMaster. It turns your garage door opener into a connected device. Once we set it up, you can:

Open/Close Remotely

Let family in without a key.

Open/Close Remotely

Let family in without a key.

Voice Control:

Sink it with platforms like IFTTT or Google Assistant (subscription may apply).

Retrofit vs. Replace: Two Ways to Get a "Smart" Garage

You don’t always need to buy a new opener to get smart features. We offer two solutions:

The Retrofit (MyQ Smart Garage Hub):

If your existing opener was made after 1998 (and has safety sensors), we can usually make it smart.

The Hardware: We install a small Wi-Fi hub on the ceiling and a door sensor.

The Cost: This is the most affordable option (usually under $200 installed).

The Result: Your old Genie or Craftsman opener can now be controlled by your phone.

The Upgrade (New Wi-Fi Opener):

If your opener is 15+ years old, it’s smarter to replace it.

The Hardware: We install a new LiftMaster 87504-267 or a Genie 3120 with Wi-Fi built into the motor.

The Benefit: Enhanced security encryption, battery backup, and smoother operation, alongside smart features.

Secure Your Packages: Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery

Porch pirates are a growing problem in the D.C. metro area. A smart garage is the ultimate solution. We can set up Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery for you.

How it Works:

When an Amazon driver arrives, they scan your package. Amazon’s cloud verifies the driver’s location and sends a temporary “Open” signal to your MyQ door.

The Delivery:

The driver places the package inside your garage (not your house) and closes the door.

Verification:

You receive a notification (and a video clip, if you have a camera model) confirming the door was securely closed.

Guest Access: Letting in the Dog Walker from Your Office

Stop hiding keys under the mat. It’s unsafe. With a smart opener, you are the gatekeeper.

Temporary Access:

If a contractor or cleaner needs to enter between 2 PM and 4 PM, you can open the door for them remotely.

Activity Log

The app keeps a history log. You will know exactly when the door was opened and who opened it.

The "Smart" Security Benefit: Real-Time Alerts

"Garage Door opened at 2:15 PM"

(When your kids get home from school).

"Garage Door left open for more than 30 minutes"

(If you forgot to close it).

"Garage Door opened manually"

(If someone pulled the release cord).

Frequently Asked Questions About Smart Openers

Can I open my garage door with my phone if the power goes out?

The app requires Wi-Fi and power to receive the signal. However, if you install a new LiftMaster with Battery Backup, the opener itself will still work via the wall button or keypad during an outage, though remote app control may be down if your router is off.

Yes! The core features of the MyQ app (opening, closing, alerts, and schedules) are completely free. There are no monthly subscription fees for standard residential use.

Yes. Modern smart openers use bank-level encryption (Security+ 2.0) to communicate. It is actually safer than older remotes because the code cannot be “grabbed” by standard radio scanners

Generally, yes. The MyQ Smart Garage Hub is compatible with most major brands (LiftMaster, Genie, Craftsman, Chamberlain) manufactured after 1993 that have safety sensors.

MyQ does not support Alexa/Google natively for opening the door (for security reasons, so someone can’t yell through a window). However, you can use them to check the status or close the door via IFTTT integrations (subscription may apply).
