Garage Door Keypad & Remote Programming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
Don’t just take our word for it!
The Region’s Most Trusted Garage Door Experts
A garage door opener is only useful if you can actually open it. Whether you have lost your remote, just moved into a new home and don’t know the keypad code, or are struggling to sync your new car’s Homelink® buttons, the frustration is real.
At Williamson Best Garage Doors, we solve these “access anxiety” problems daily. We don’t just sell batteries; we provide professional programming and security resetting services for all major brands, including LiftMaster, Genie, Chamberlain, and Craftsman. Serving Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, and D.C., our trucks are stocked with a wide variety of OEM remotes and keypads, meaning we can get you back into your garage in a single visit.
SECURITY ALERT: Why You Must "Clear" Your Opener's Memory
This is the most critical reason to hire a professional. If you lost a remote, someone else might have it. Or, if you just bought a new house, the previous owner (or their dog walker, or contractor) might still have a remote that opens your door. When we come out to program a new remote, we perform a Factory Reset (Memory Clear) on your motor head.
Wipe the Slate Clean: This erases all previous codes and remotes from the system.
Reprogram: We then reprogram only the remotes you currently possess.
The Result: That lost remote is now a useless piece of plastic. It will no longer open your door. This is a vital security step for new homeowners.
The Convenience of a Wireless Exterior Keypad (Keyless Entry)
If you don’t have a keypad mounted on the outside of your garage frame, you are missing out on the ultimate convenience.
For the Kids: Let the kids get their bikes out without giving them a house key to lose.
For Runners: Go for a jog without carrying a bulky keychain.
Emergency Access: Locked out of your house? The garage keypad is your backup entry method. We install Universal Wireless Keypads that work with 90% of openers. We mount them securely to the frame, program a 4-digit PIN of your choice, and show you how to change it later.
Universal vs. OEM Remotes: Why "One Size Fits All" Often Fails
You can buy a “Universal Remote” at the hardware store for $30. Sometimes they work. Often, they don’t.
Older "Dip Switch
Older “Dip Switch” openers use a fixed frequency. Newer openers use “Rolling Code” technology. Universal remotes try to bridge this gap, but often suffer from poor range or “forget” the code after a few weeks.
We prefer to install OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) remotes. If you have a LiftMaster opener, we give you a LiftMaster remote. They are more durable, have better range, and are guaranteed to stay paired.
Our Programming Process: Fast, Secure, & Guaranteed
Many homeowners believe their opener is broken when the motor hums, but the door doesn’t move. In reality, the opener is fine; it just can’t lift the door’s dead weight without the spring. How do you know if your spring is the culprit?
Diagnosis: We check the date of manufacture on your motor to determine the radio frequency.
Hardware Selection: We select the correct 1-button, 3-button, or mini-keychain remote.
Memory Wipe: We hold the "Learn" button to erase old codes (for security).
Pairing: We program the new remotes, the keypad, and your vehicle.
Testing: We walk to the end of the driveway to ensure the range is strong (replacing the logic board antenna if needed).

Frequently Asked Questions About Remotes
How do I reset the code on my garage door keypad?
The process varies by brand, but generally: Press the “Learn” button on the motor unit. Then, within 30 seconds, enter your new 4-digit PIN on the keypad and press “Enter.” The light on the motor should click or flash to confirm.
Why does my garage door remote work sometimes but not others?
This is usually due to weak batteries or RF Interference. LED light bulbs inside the garage can interfere with the remote signal. We recommend using specific “Garage Door LED” bulbs or standard incandescent bulbs.
Can I use a LiftMaster remote with a Genie opener?
Generally, no. They use different radio “languages.” However, we can install an external Universal Receiver that allows incompatible brands to talk to each other.
How much does it cost to program a new remote?
A service call plus a new remote typically ranges from $125 to $185. This includes the hardware, the programming of all devices, and a full system safety check.
I lost my remote. Can you block it from working?
Yes! We perform a “Memory Clear” on your opener. This wipes all known remotes from the system. We then reprogram only the ones you still have. The lost remote will no longer open your door.
