The "Black Garage Door" Trend: Modern, Bold, and Beautiful

If you have looked at Pinterest or Instagram lately, you know that Black Garage Doors are the hottest trend in exterior design. They look incredible on white farmhouses, red brick colonials, and gray stone estates.

Factory Finish:

We don't just spray paint a white door. We install doors with factory-applied Black Polyurethane finishes (such as Clopay’s Black steel). This finish is designed to reflect heat (Cool Paint Technology) so the door doesn't warp in the D.C. summer sun.

Matte vs. Gloss:

Choose from a sleek Matte Black for a modern industrial look or a Gloss Black for a classic formal appearance.

Faux Wood Garage Doors: The Look of Timber Without the Maintenance

Everyone loves the look of wood, but nobody loves sanding and restaining every two years.

The Solution:

High-Definition Faux Wood. We install steel doors with advanced Ultra-Grain® paint finishes or composite overlays that mimic the texture and grain of real wood.

The Solution:

High-Definition Faux Wood. We install steel doors with advanced Ultra-Grain® paint finishes or composite overlays that mimic the texture and grain of real wood.

The "Knuckle Test":

These finishes are so realistic that you have to knock on the door to realize it’s actually durable, low-maintenance steel.

Durability:

Unlike real wood, these doors will never rot, crack, or fade in the UV light.

Custom Color Matching: We Match Your Siding or Trim Perfectly

Owning a home in a historic district like Georgetown, Capitol Hill, or Old Town Alexandria comes with strict rules. The “Old Georgetown Board” or local preservation review boards often reject steel doors.

The Solution: We design custom wood doors that meet historical specifications down to the inch. We replicate original details, such as specific molding profiles, true divided lite windows, and period-correct iron hardware, to ensure your permit is approved.

Unlimited Customization: Windows,
Stains, and Iron Hardware

You Pick the Color:

Give us the paint code (e.g., "SW 7005 Pure White").

Factory Painting:

The manufacturer applies a solar-reflective industrial coating in that exact shade.

The Guarantee:

The paint includes a warranty against peeling and fading, which is far superior to painting the door yourself with a roller.

Window Designs: From Arched Tops to Modern Frosted Glass

Windows break up the “wall of steel” and let natural light into your garage.

Architectural Series:

We match the window grille pattern to your house windows (e.g., Prairie Style, Colonial Grids, or Craftsman).

Glass Privacy

Choose from Frosted, Seeded, Obscure, or Rain glass to keep prying eyes out while letting the sun in.

You aren’t limited to the top row! We can install vertical windows along the side for a modern, asymmetrical look.

Decorative Hardware: The "Jewelry" of Your Garage Door

Hardware is the finishing touch that transforms a standard door into a Carriage House masterpiece.

Hinges:

Long strap hinges (18″ or 24″) create the illusion of a swing-out door.

Lost your remote? Need a keyless entry pad for the kids? We program and sync all devices.

clavos

Clavos:

Decorative iron nails can be added to the door face for a rustic, medieval, or Spanish aesthetic. All our hardware is powder-coated to prevent rust.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Styles

Do black garage doors get too hot in the summer?

Standard black paint can make a door extremely hot, potentially warping the steel. However, the factory-finished Black doors we install use “Cool Paint Technology” with heat-reflective pigments to keep the surface temperature lower and safe for the door panels.

You can, but it is risky. Using the wrong exterior latex can cause the paint to peel or bubble within a year. Factory-applied finishes are baked on and come with a warranty. If you must paint, we recommend professional spraying.

Black and Dark Charcoal are currently the top trending colors for modern homes. For traditional homes, Walnut (Faux Wood) remains the best-seller.

standard factory color (White, Almond, Sandstone) is included in the base price. A premium Ultra-Grain (Faux Wood) finish adds approximately $300- $500. A fully custom Color Blast match adds $600- $900 to the total door cost.
